Why is my Dymo Printer Printer Blank Labels?
There are multiple reasons why your Dymo printer may be printing blank labels. It is important to determine if the issue is caused by the data you have entered on your computer, or an issue with the actual printer.
First, press the grey button below the slot where labels are dispensed from your printer. One label should dispense after you press this button. If your printer does produce only one label, this means there is an issue with the information you have entered.
If your printer dispenses more than one blank label, the issue is most likely due to a dirty sensor on your printer. The sensor on your Dymo printer is what scans the label paper for the holes between your dymo labels. If your sensor is dirty, the printer may not be able to identify the holes between the labels and cause issues.
How to clean the sensor on your Dymo printer
- Remove all labels from your printer
- Remove the cleaning card from its package. Your printer will come with one of these with purchase.
- Feed the cleaning card into the printer, just like you would a label. The printer should automatically sense the card, and feed it through.
- If your printer does not detect the cleaning card, press the feed button to feed the card through.
- Repeat this process a few times, and dispose of the card when finished.
Dymo recommends doing this at least once a month for optimal printing performance.
How to clean other components on your Dymo printer
If you are still having issues with blank labels after cleaning your sensor on your Dymo printer, next you should check cabels, connections, spools or rollers. If there is an issue with any of these components on your printer, it is most likely due to debris or build up of adhesive from labels. Clean these components individually with a lint-free cloth and either isopropyl alcohol, watered down dishwashing liquid, or ammonia-free diluted glass cleaner.
Check the labels you are using
If your printer is still printing blank labels after taking these steps, check the labels themselves. If you are using old or damaged labels, this could be the cause of your issue. Be sure that the labels are not fed into the printer upside down. Also make sure that the roll of labels fits correctly on the spindle of your Dymo printer. The roll should be posited to the far left, beneath the scanner. Lastly, check that the printer cover is completely closed when printing.
How do I fix a label jam in my Dymo Printer?
Label jams are frustrating and can cost you time, and cause you to waste labels. If you are having issues with labels jamming in your Dymo printer, you may have to consider the following.
First, be sure to unplug your printer and open the cover. Remove the spool from the printer. Next, remove any labels that may be lodged or stuck in the dispenser. Be sure to take off the faceplate, which will have the word “Dymo” printed on it. Once the faceplate is removed, you will see a lever. This lever will let you separate the print head from the feed.
Next, use a straightened paper clip and/or plastic tweezers to try and loosen the labels that have wrapped around each other. Be very careful when you are doing this, so you do not damage your printer. You can also try using dull scissors to score the labels, but making sure you are not cutting the printer roller itself.
After you have removed all the jammed labels, it is smart to run a Dymo cleaning card through the printer a few times. This will clean any debris or adhesive that you may not see.
Best ways to maintain your Dymo Printer
Consistently maintaining and cleaning your Dymo printer is the best way to ensure it prints properly for an extended period of time. Though your Dymo printer will come with one cleaning card, you should purchase more for future use right away. The Dymo cleaning card will clean tough-to-see parts of the printer where debris and adhesive will build up. It will keep your printhead clean and functioning properly. Dymo recommends using a cleaner card 1 or 2 times a month, depending on how often you use your Dymo Printer.
Another easy measure to take to maintain your Dymo printer is making sure you are inserting labels into your printer correctly. Always be sure that the label adhesive is not exposed when inserting them into your printer. The adhesive can cause build up, and jams inside of your printer.
DYMO 550 Series
The Dymo LabelWriter 5 series of label printers incorporate an RFID chip in the label roll's core to verify the authenticity of labels and transmit label-related information, such as label size and the remaining number of labels on the roll, to the printer. This unfortunetly means that the Dymo 550 series printers will only work with Dymo manufactured labels.
